The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. The Global Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
THANKS to our Season 5 Sponsor LocalMotion for helping us make an even bigger impact.
In Season 5, we sit down with stakeholders working across numerous sectors and industries, to find a common language to address, measure and demonstrate the impact that they are making in tackling the 17 Global Goals.
From Berlin to Sydney, from Honolulu to Hong Kong, our #impact hosts will bring you stories from all over the globe as you find inspiration on how to make an #impact in your community too.
We believe that everybody has a role to play, and that everybody can make a difference.
In this special #impactSTORY episode, Alia Eyres, of Mother’s Choice, Shalini Mahtani, of The Zubin Foundation, and Manisha Wijesinghe from HELP for Domestic Workers discuss the Sustainable Development Goals and their fight against inequality among Hong Kong’s most vulnerable populations. They also share how their organisations have coped and pivoted as the Covid-19 Pandemic hit Hong Kong.
To make an impact means changing someone’s life, and it actually doesn’t matter how you change it, as long as you change it for the better.
The overarching aim of the SDGs is to create a more sustainable and equitable world for all demographics.
Mother’s Choice
Working tirelessly to give young pregnant women and children without families better lives, Mother’s Choice contributes directly to these goals. The dedicated staff, board and volunteers continue to inspire the Hong Kong society by protecting disadvantaged women and children.
“We have seen how the social isolation and separation of Covid-19 has underscored the need for us to share our stories of hope.”
The Zubin Foundation
The Zubin Foundation aims to improve the lives of another often neglected demographic, ethnic minorities. They do so by conducting research, developing projects and influencing public policy to drive systemic change. Named after Zubin Mahtani Gidumal, who passed away at the age of three, the foundation lives up to its namesake, which translates to “to honour” in English.
“My aim is to provide this invisible community, this four percent of Hong Kong, with the opportunities they deserve as Hong Kongers.”
HELP for Domestic Workers
HELP is dedicated to supporting the domestic workers of Hong Kong, the largest, overlooked demographic in the city. They empower them through advice, assistance, education and support and to help them gain access to justice and receive fair and equal treatment.
“Communicate. Communicate when you’re not feeling comfortable; communicate when you want to say something, when you want to advocate for yourself.”
In face of the Covid-19 pandemic, unforeseen challenges have appeared and forced organisations to restructure and reshape priorities.
In this episode Shalini, Alia, and Manisha discuss the Sustainable Development Goals, how they influence the work they do and how the pandemic has altered their priorities in a time of confusion and volatility.
